Haere mai and welcome

Just a stepping stone away from the noise, hustle and bustle of Auckland CBD and a few seconds walk off the famous Ponsonby Road strip of queerness, is Omahanui, an oasis of calm and pleasure where guests can enjoy a peaceful and relaxed stay in a comfortably furnished home full of food for both body and soul.

Omahanui is perfect for guests looking for a real Kiwi experience, one where your host takes a genuine interest in your wellbeing and comfort. Rather than a swanky upmarket lodge or high end spa resort, this is comfortable, engaging, laidback living where meeting the individual needs of guests is of paramount concern. Your host is happy to hang out with you or to leave you to do your own thing because creating genuine smiles is the most important intention of this inner city haven.

Location

Omahanui is an easy walk from Auckland’s recognised queer neighbourhood - Ponsonby. The main strip teems with bars and restaurants and is just around the corner from that other famous hive of Auckland nightlife, Karangahape or K’Rd. Not far away is the eclectic suburb of Kingsland and the super stylish Jervois Rd precinct. The Auckland CBD is a comfortable 20 minute walk away.

Beaches, forest walks and shopping precincts are all easily accessible and within easy travel distance. To the north and west, and equally worthy of exploration, are a number of high quality vineyards. The beautiful Waiheke Island with its own world class wineries is only a ferry ride away.

Your Host

Your host has years of hosting under his belt – everyone from Woofers to Couchsurfers, Helpex, BeWelcome and MisterB&B guests. He knows Aotearoa very, very well and can point you in the direction of the most interesting places to visit throughout the country.

“I am a liberal-minded, highly educated, well-travelled man, who enjoys the respectful company of others, learning from their perspectives, likes and preferences. I am fully at peace with myself and comfortable in my own figurative and literal skin.

I strongly resist labels and all the expectations they create. I much prefer the excitement and adventure of coming to know someone for myself and forming my own opinions. I particularly enjoy sharing with and learning from diverse cultures, orientations, and preferences.

I relish one on one conversations and can contribute on many subject areas, national, international, personal and profound. I especially enjoy the company of guests who are genuinely open-minded and are open to freely questioning, without prejudice, the validity of life's varied pathways.

I have a passion for food and am an accomplished cook who is fascinated by cultural food and its provenance.
I enjoy a broad range of music, have a longstanding interest in performance arts, like to read and enjoy good movies although I am not a Netflix geek and prefer faces to screens. I am also what some may term a rugby fanatic. I'm especially fond of sunny, hot weather, beaches, and swimming as well as exploring nature and protecting it.
