The guys believe they have the best of all worlds, all the sights and sounds their rural escape offers, yet close to many of the Wairarapa's attractions (only 10 minutes to either Carterton or Masterton and 15 to the boutique shoppers paradise of Greytown). As well as the Yurts they share their 5 acres with an eclectic mix of Alpacas, goats, chickens and their beloved dogs Wazza and Mindy.
Unashamedly fond of the odd creature comfort, John & Ken also wanted to build and live in something that sat lightly on the planet. Hence the Yurts. Engineered and built to reflect modern living the two Yurts now stand proudly gazing at the rolling hills, doors thrown open for the summer breeze and shut snugly for the insulated warmth in winter. They are separated by a more conventional build that houses the kitchen and a full ensuite bathroom for each Yurt. In addition, clothing optional areas are also now available.
Naturally you get to experience your own private Yurt, with private entrance. Complete with Queen size bed from which you can gaze out the doors at the hills beyond or lie back and stargaze at night through the Perspex dome. A full continental breakfast is served to you each morning at a pre arranged time that suits you. You have several relaxed seating areas within the Yurt as well as an antique dining setting if you like your table manners. TV is available if you must, but if you really just want to get away from all that, a good selection of board games is also on hand. There is wifi of course, depending on the day it can be blazingly brilliant or dazzlingly dodgy (but hey you are here to give it all a rest). Tea and coffee facilities are on hand. You also have your own private bathroom. The boys do invite you to enjoy a beverage with them in their Yurt of an evening and are always on hand if you need them or invisible if you don't .
If you don't know the Wairarapa you're in for a treat. The guys will happily fill you in on all that it has to offer, from natural wonders such as the stunning Holdsworth National Park (filled with old growth beech forest and an extensive array of walking tracks) only 10 minutes drive away, to the world renowned wine centres of Martinborough and Gladstone. Boutique shoppers paradise Greytown is a handy 15 minutes away. Or simply relax here at Windrush, take a stroll along the river, as short or as long as you like or take a dip in the water hole directly in front of the property. If you want to get to know the farm animals, John and Ken will also happily give you a Farm tour.
